Everything you'd want to know before you wear it
The story behind this piece, how to recognise the real thing, and how to care for it — told honestly, the Salico way.
The sacred ebony of the South
Karungali is the Tamil name for a dense black ebony from the dry forests of Southern India — wood so heavy it sinks in water, long chosen by temple artisans for sacred staffs and prayer beads, and passed between generations as a guardian of the household.
Know what real looks like
Dyed lightweight woods are the common fake. Real karungali is unmistakably dense — it sinks in water.
